Making the Game #2

Now for the next page!

This page has a lot of interesting things on it. I wrote this the same day as the last page, and was just spitting out ideas as best I can. This is also the first time you probably seen some of the FATE ideas.

First, this. I love the skill system in FATE. It was revolutionary to me when I first saw it after playing 4e for three years. You mean I can have ANY skills I WANT. That rocks! This will show up in future dev logs for Hobbies and Classes, but eventually it gets cut.

The other FATE idea is Milestone Advancement. This is where the idea for the structure of "Episodes" starts to come in that eventually sticks around. With milestones, you "level up" not when you have enough experience points, but when something narrative happens.

There's a little bar with boxes you color in. As you progress, you can gain more dice to roll. You can also see a note referencing Monster of the Week. That was another game that change my perspective on TTRPGs.

Finally, there is this note, the note that was huge! DOUBLES! I can't remember the first time I thought of rolling doubles, but then it took some time to expand on it. I was fascinated by the idea that instead of counting numbers and doing math, you are just trying to get matching numbers. It felt so quick and unique. I fell in love instantly.

This was still the early IDEA phase of the writing. I was just putting down whatever comes to mind, to then let them stew together and see what gets made.
